As a new mom, the whole baby world can be incredibly overwhelming, especially when it comes to what to put on your registry. Luckily we have Youtube now and can watch tons of videos of Moms from all over spilling their newborn must-have secrets! I am so grateful to those videos for helping me build my own registry.
The one common theme that I gathered from watching all of these videos is that ultimately every baby is different. So what worked for one baby may not work for the next. This applies to pacifiers, diapers, bottles, swaddles, and almost everything a baby needs. That’s when I found out that registries give out free baby registry welcome bags with lots of different samples that can help you find what your baby loves without having to buy one of everything yourself. It’s not much, but it’s definitely a solid start! Along with these samples I also included one other type of bottle or pacifier I didn’t receive in the welcome kits, just in case my baby would prefer a different option.
Every registry’s requirements for receiving a welcome bag are different so look into the store where you registered for those details. I have a registry with Target, Buy Buy Baby, and Amazon so I’ll fill you in on those details specifically. These are the stores we tend to shop at the most so it just made sense to register there.
Target
There are two ways you can create a registry and receive a welcome bag at Target.
- Create a registry in-store and receive your welcome bag in person. This is dependent on the store’s inventory but you can call ahead and verify that they have welcome bags on hand.
- Create a registry online and order your welcome bag to be delivered. This was more convenient for me so it’s what I did. All you need to get set up is an account with Target. Once you’re signed in you can add anything on the Target website to your registry. In order to have the welcome bag delivered for free, your cart must total $35 so I waited until I actually needed to order something for it to be shipped. They will also charge you like 5 cents for the bag but that wasn’t a huge deal for me.

Buy Buy Baby
We actually went in-store for this one. Since they are baby focused they tend to keep their welcome bag inventory stocked so I knew we could get one immediately here. They have a special registry desk where an associate will help you get a registry set up along with giving you a welcome bag. They’ll also give you a scanner to walk around the store and scan stuff right into your registry. It’s a pretty fun way to get things started! I highly recommend doing this one in person if you can.

Amazon
Amazon makes it super easy to just set up a registry online right from your prime account. In order to claim the welcome bag you must have $10 in purchases from your registry. To meet the purchase threshold I just added a couple of onesies I wanted to see the quality of to my registry and ordered them myself. It was something I was going to be ordering anyway. You could also just wait until someone buys something from your registry. The $10 threshold can be met fairly quickly.
